NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark.--The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's tennis teams both swept Hendrix College, 9-0, today in North Little Rock, Ark.
The Panther women now stand at 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Athletic Association with their seventh-straight win, and the men move to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the SAA with their fifth-straight victory.
For the women, senior Raeann Lamere and junior Moya Moore teamed up at No. 1 doubles to win 8-1, while junior Emily Holst and freshman Sara Cohen were victorious in the second doubles position, 8-0. At three doubles, junior Terria Punturo and freshman Lindsey Farrell won 8-1.
In singles, Moore won at the top spot in straight sets, and Lamere won at two singles 6-0, 6-1. Cohen won at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-3, Holst won in the fourth position in straight sets, Farrell won at five singles, also in straight sets, and Punturo won in the final spot, 6-0, 6-1.
On the men's side, senior Sawyer Voges and junior Stewart Thrash won at the top doubles spot, 8-2, while juniors Tony DaMaia and Christian Matthews won at two doubles, 9-8 (10-4). Freshmen Brian Brandt and Patrick Hire rounded out doubles play, winning in the three spot, 8-0.
Voges won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2, followed by Matthews at two singles winning 6-0, 7-5, and Hire in the third spot winning 6-1, 6-0. DaMaia won at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1, junior Lance Mengel won at four singles, 6-0, 6-1, and sophomore Ben Reardon won in at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1.
Both teams are in action again tomorrow in North Little Rock, facing Rhodes at 1 p.m.
