Women's Tennis wins 5-4 thriller against Oglethorpe in SAA first round

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The second-seeded Birmingham-Southern women's tennis team won today in thrilling fashion in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Southern Athletic Association Championship, defeating seventh-seeded Oglethorpe 5-4 at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The Panthers move to 12-3 on the season, and move on to the semifinals where they will take on third-seeded Berry tomorrow at 9 a.m.

BSC pulled ahead 2-1 in doubles play, with senior Emily Holst and freshman Mary Evelyn Carroll winning 8-5 in the two spot, and senior Terria Punturo and sophomore Lindsey Farrell winning 9-7 at three. The teams then played to a 4-4 tie after five of the six singles matches finished before sophomore Sara Cohen clinched the BSC victory by winning at two singles in a tiebreaker, 8-6.
