Volleyball gets five more commitments

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern volleyball program has gotten commitments from five more players for the upcoming season, head coach April Fricke announced today, as Amanda Cazort, Shelby Moore, Alessandra Norman, Alexis Pappas, and Chelsea Pittman have completed their intent to enroll in the college and play for the Panthers this fall.

Cazort is an outside hitter and defensive specialist out of Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Ark. She was a three-year letterwinner and served as varsity captain her senior season and junior varsity captain as a sophomore. Cazort was an Honor Roll member and worked on the yearbook staff.

Moore is a middle blocker and outside hitter from Baton Rouge, La., where she played volleyball and soccer and ran track for Episcopal High School. In volleyball, she was All-State and team captain as a senior, was named Offensive MVP in 2007 and 2008, All-District as a sophomore, junior, and senior, and First-Team All-Metro as a junior. In soccer, Moore was team captain her junior and senior seasons, a three-time All-District honoree, Defensive MVP as a junior and senior, and Second-Team All-Metro as a junior. She was captain of the track and field team as a senior and was named Field Events MVP three times. Moore was Academic All-State in volleyball and track in 2008-09, as well as a National Honor Society and Division Head's List member.

Norman is an outside hitter from El Paso High School in El Paso, Texas. She was All-District in 2007 and 2008 and named El Paso Times 1-4A Athlete of the Year in 2008. Norman was also on the wrestling team and was a state qualifier in 2007. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was a National Hispanic Merit Scholar in 2008.

Pappas is a middle blocker out of Smoky Hill High School in Centennial, Colo., where she was a three-year varsity letterwinner. She was named MVP in 2008 and Most Inspirational in 2007. Pappas was a member of the Principal's Honor Roll from 2005 to 2007, International Baccalaureate from 2005 to 2009, and was named Academic First Team in 2009.

Pittman is an outside hitter from Orlando, Fla., where she attended Orangewood Christian High School. She was named First-Team All-District in 2007, 2008, and 2009, and helped lead her team to the state title in 2005 and 2006. As a senior in 2009, she was also named MVP and Female Student-Athlete of the Year. Pittman was a member of the National Honor Society and Highest Academic Honors, and graduated as salutatorian of her class. She also received the Highest Academic Average in English and Significant Achievement in AP Art.

The five players join Presley Dickson and Lauren Reibe in this year's incoming class.
