Volleyball adds two commitments for 2008
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern volleyball program has added two players for the upcoming 2008 season, coach Pavlina Steffkova announced today, as Hope Harris and Haley Johnson have completed their intent to enroll in the college and play for the Panthers this fall.
Harris is a 5-10 outside hitter/right side out of Winston Churchill High School in San Antonio, Texas. She earned All-District and Academic All-State honors in 2007, and Academic All-District accolades in both 2006 and 2007. Harris is also a member of the National Honor Society, and plays for the Alamo Volleyball Club team. She is the sister of current BSC player Sarah Harris, who will be a junior this fall.
Johnson is a 5-11 outside hitter from Briarwood Christian School in Leeds, Ala., where she was a four-year varsity member. She earned All-Metro and Second-Team All-State honors in 2005 and 2006, while helping lead her squad to the Elite Eight and Final Four of the state tournament in 2005 and the 5A runner-up spot in 2006. Johnson also earned 5A All-Tournament Team honors in 2006. In 2007, she served as team captain and helped lead the Lions to the runner-up position in the 5A state tournament again. Academically, Johnson is a member of the A/B Honor Roll and National Honor Society, and an All-Academic honoree in 2007.
