BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In its final home match of the season, the Birmingham-Southern volleyball team swept Lee University, 3-0, Friday evening in Bill Battle Coliseum. The Panthers move to 20-7 on the season with their ninth straight win, while the Lady Flames drop to 19-6.
In the first set, BSC was up for the opening points but Lee came back and pulled ahead, keeping a four-point lead down the stretch until the Panthers cut it to two, 21-19. After that, BSC rattled off six straight points for the 25-21 victory.
The Panthers were up for most of the second set as well, leading 18-10 and 21-13 before Lee cut it to 21-17. BSC hung on to the lead, however, and was victorious, 25-19. BSC then led the entire third set to clinch the match, 25-15.
Junior outside hitter Sarah Harris led with 13 kills, and junior setter Milica Stojanovic recorded yet another double-double (her 12th of the season) with 35 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore libero Jennifer McKannan led the team with 12 digs, and senior middle blocker Casey Demos led with five block assists.
For Lee, Stephanie Todd led with six kills, Milica Krsmanovic led with 18 assists, and Tina Questel led with a game-high 14 digs. Krsmanovic also led the Lady Flames with three block assists and a solo block.
BSC is on the road tomorrow, traveling to face North Alabama at 7 p.m. in Florence, Ala. The Panthers will return home again for a BSC Alumni Match on Nov. 8 at 6 p.m., at which time the BSC seniors will be recognized.
