Volleyball wins five-set thriller over Lee at Emory National Challenge
ATLANTA – Claiming its 15th straight victory, the Birmingham-Southern (26-7) volleyball team defeated Lee University, 3-2, Friday afternoon in the Emory National Challenge in Atlanta.
Lee won the first set, 25-21, but the Panthers tied it up with a 25-23 victory in the second set. Lee won again in the third set, 25-23, and BSC pushed the match to five sets with a 25-23 win in the fourth set. The Panthers went on to win the fifth set, 15-12, to win the match.
Senior Casey Demos led with 14 kills, followed by junior Michelle Maciejewski with 13 and juniors Morgan Anderson and Caitlin Dees with 11 apiece. Junior Milica Stojanovic dished out 45 assists and picked up a double-double with 14 digs, while sophomore Jennifer McKannan recorded a game-high 20 digs. Junior Sarah Harris also posted 16 digs.
BSC plays two matches tomorrow, taking on the top two teams in the nation with an 11 a.m. match against No. 2 Emory and a 2 p.m. match against No. 1 Juniata.
