Volleyball wins two at Rhodes Fall Classic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. –
The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team defeated Franklin & Marshall College and Millsaps College earlier this evening at the Rhodes Fall Classic to move to 6-0 on the season.

The Panthers beat Franklin & Marshall by the score of 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-23), led by sophomore Chelsea Pittman and freshman Alex Bothe with eight kills apiece. Senior setter Christine Denning recorded a double-double with 24 assists and 14 digs, and senior libero Jennifer McKannan posted 24 digs. Sophomore Shelby Moore recorded three blocks.

BSC’s match against Millsaps was much closer, with the Panthers winning 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22). Denning was impressive with 45 assists and 13 digs for another double-double, while Bothe also recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 16 digs. McKannan totaled 27 digs, Pittman and junior Hope Harris posted 12 kills each, and junior Alaina Smith recorded four blocks.

The Panthers are back on the court tomorrow, facing Central Baptist College at noon and Webster University at 4 p.m.
