BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team lost to Martin Methodist College, 3-1, Wednesday evening in Bill Battle Coliseum.
The Panthers fall to 5-8 on the year, while the Red Hawks move to 6-7.
MMC won the first set, 25-21, and BSC rebounded to win the second set, 25-18. The third set was a close and hard-fought contest, but the Red Hawks came out on top again, 25-20. MMC clinched the match by winning the fourth set, 25-16.
Sophomore Alex Bothe led with 14 kills, and junior setter Lauren Reibe recorded a double-double with 35 assists and 10 digs. Junior libero Presley Dickson led with 27 digs, and senior Alessandra Norman was also in double digits with 12 digs. Junior Chelsea Pittman and freshman Katie O'Bar led at the net with three blocks each, and freshman Kelly Foster had three service aces.
As a team, the Panthers struggled offensively, hitting .104; the Red Hawks hit .174. BSC also had 12 service errors to MMC's four.
"I think as soon as we stop fighting ourselves, we're going to soar," Head Coach Judy Green said.
The Panthers travel to Sewanee, Tenn., this weekend to open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play, taking on Rhodes and Hendrix, Saturday, and Millsaps and Colorado College, Sunday.
