JACKSON, Miss.—Playing as the fourth seed in the 2011 SCAC Volleyball Championship, the Birmingham-Southern volleyball team lost to fifth-seeded Trinity University, 3-0, Friday afternoon.
BSC falls to 19-18, while Trinity moves to 21-15. The Panthers lost by the scores of 25-19, 26-24, and 25-18.
In the second set, BSC led down the stretch, 24-23, before the Tigers scored three straight points to win.
Sophomore Alex Bothe led BSC with seven kills, junior setter Lauren Reibe led with 21 assists, and junior libero Presley Dickson led with eight digs. Senior Alaina Smith had a solo block and a block assist.
The Panthers struggled offensively, hitting .157 to Trinity's .355 performance.
"We got off to a flat start emotionally and could never truly get into a rhythm," Head Coach Judy Green said. "Credit Trinity for taking us out of our game today, though. They executed at a high level. In a situation like we have been in over the last couple of days, I knew we would either be on an emotional high or be flat, which was how we started the match.
"No matter what happened today I am proud of our team," Green continued. "Every player on our team wanted a better team performance. It was a very tough day, but today is over and tomorrow is another day for us to embrace playing volleyball."
BSC is back in action in the consolation bracket tomorrow at 9 a.m., facing either top-seeded Southwestern or ninth-seed Dallas.
