ROME, Ga.—Berry College defeated Birmingham-Southern 3-0 on Saturday in the semifinal round of the Southern Athletic Association Volleyball Championship in Rome, Ga.
The Panthers end the season with a record of 19-11; the Vikings improve to 26-5.
Berry never trailed in the first set, winning 25-16, but set two was closer as the teams played to four straight ties to open the set and neither team led by more than three until Berry pulled ahead down the stretch. The Vikings put together a 7-0 run to go up 24-18 before eventually winning 25-19.
Set three was similar to the second set, with neither team leading by more than two until Berry scored four straight points to pull ahead 20-15. The Panthers were able to score three of the next four points, cutting it to 22-19, but the Vikings put the last three points away to win the set, 25-19, and the match.
Junior Alex Bothe led BSC with 10 kills, while senior setter Lauren Reibe had 12 assists and senior libero Presley Dickson recorded 14 digs. The Panthers hit .186 for the match while the Vikings hit .330.
