BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern Head Women's Volleyball Coach Judy Green announced the hiring of Steve Lohn as the Panthers new assistant volleyball coach on Tuesday. Lohn replaces Kyndall Waters who stepped aside last month and will remain as BSC's Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance.
"I am pleased to have someone with Steve's coaching experience; playing experience, and coaching competitiveness join the BSC Volleyball family," Green said. "His experiences he gained at Ole Miss and Rhodes will help him to hit the ground running as we continue to move our volleyball program forward. He understands the uniqueness of being an NCAA DIII student-athlete and embraces the educational opportunities that Birmingham-Southern offers."
"I'm very excited to get the opportunity to work with, and learn from, a head coach with the experience, knowledge and enthusiasm of Judy Green," Lohn added. "Coming to Birmingham-Southern with a team that has already proven to be at the top end of the SAA and has a goal to compete nationally is a great situation as a coach. Reaching the next level will take a lot of hard work from the team and the coaches, but I believe it is a goal we will achieve."
Lohn comes to Birmingham-Southern from Southern Athletic Association member Rhodes College, where he served as the volleyball assistant coach since 2010. During his tenure, Lohn worked with the setters and back row and was the team's strength and conditioning coordinator.
Prior to Rhodes, Lohn was volunteer coach for the Ole Miss Volleyball Club Team from 2009-2010 after serving as manager on the Ole Miss Volleyball program from 2004-2007. Lohn began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach for the Mayfield Secondary School from 2001-2002.
