Volleyball earns fifth seed in SAA Championship, will face Millsaps in first round

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team has drawn the fifth seed in the upcoming Southern Athletic Association Championship, Nov. 8-10, and will face fourth-seeded Millsaps at 8 p.m. Eastern on Friday, Nov. 8.

The tournament will be hosted by Berry College in Rome, Ga., for the second straight season after the Vikings clinched their second straight regular season title on Sunday with a 3-1 win against the Panthers.

BSC is 18-8 overall and finished with a 7-7 SAA record. The Panthers will play two more regular-season non-conference matches this weekend at the Rhodes Classic in Memphis, facing Mississippi College at 11 a.m. and Martin Methodist on 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Millsaps is 15-14 overall and also 7-7 in the league. The Majors won the tiebreaker by virtue of defeating BSC twice this season in conference matches; the Panthers notched a 3-2 non-conference victory against the Majors in the McAttack Bash on Sept. 7. Millsaps also closes out its regular season this Saturday, Nov. 2, hosting UT Dallas at 10 a.m. and Belhaven at noon.

Berry won the overall top seed with an overall mark of 21-5 and a 13-1 SAA record, their only loss at the hands of BSC back on Oct. 5 in Birmingham. The Vikings will face No. 8 Oglethorpe (5-16, 0-14 SAA) on Friday, Nov. 8, at 5:30 p.m. Eastern. No. 2 Centre (20-4, 12-2 SAA) and No. 7 Sewanee (13-12, 4-10 SAA) will square off in the first match of the day at 12:30 p.m. Eastern, and No. 3 Hendrix (16-11, 7-7 SAA) will face No. 6 Rhodes (9-18, 6-8 SAA) at 3 p.m. Eastern.
