BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Sophomore Lynsie Byrd has been named Southern Athletic Association Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, as voted by the league's head coaches, it was announced today.
Byrd, an outside hitter from Ocean Springs, Miss., helped the Panthers win two more matches this weekend, including a big win against Hendrix on Saturday. She had two double-doubles (and now has 11 on the season), recording 16 kills and 13 digs on Saturday against Hendrix, and 15 kills and 12 digs against Rhodes on Sunday. For the week, Byrd had 31 kills (4.43 per set) and hit .222 (including a .317 showing against Rhodes), going 31-9-99. She also had 35.5 points (5.07 per set), 25 digs (3.57 per set), three service aces, and three blocks, and leads the SAA in kills and points.
The Panther volleyball team is at home again this weekend, continuing conference play against Sewanee on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., and Centre on Sunday at noon.
