Panthers split at home in Tri-Match

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team split at home today in tri-match action, falling to No. 3 Emory 3-0 before sweeping in-state rival Huntingdon 3-0.

The Panthers moved to 18-8, while Emory, who defeated Huntingdon 3-0 in the first match of the day, moved to 24-2 and Huntingdon fell to 4-18.

BSC kept things fairly close in all three sets against third-ranked Emory, losing 25-18, 25-21, and 25-20. Sophomore Lynsie Byrd led with 11 kills, junior setter Katie McCormack led with 25 assists, and junior libero Lauren Bedford led with 17 digs. Senior Meredith Lee also recorded 12 digs, and senior Katie O'Bar had four blocks.

The Panthers rebounded with a sweep of Huntingdon in the final match of the evening, winning 25-15, 25-19, 25-15. Sophomore Laura Van Peursem led with eight kills and hit .667 with no errors, and also led with four blocks. McCormack had 21 assists and 10 digs for her 11th double-double of the season, and Byrd also had 10 digs.

BSC resumes Southern Athletic Association play this weekend, traveling to face Sewanee, Saturday in Sewanee, Tenn., and Centre, Sunday in Danville, Ky., both at 11 a.m. Central.
