Panthers Split Day Two of Texas Classic

SEGUIN, Texas –  The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team split competition in day two of the Texas Lutheran Bulldog Classic Saturday.  The Panthers defeated Sul Ross State 3-0 before falling to East Texas Baptist University 3-2 in the finale.  BSC closes the regular season at 21-6 overall.


Marjorie Ward (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park HS) earned her third triple-double of the season in the loss to ETBU with 21 assists, 13 kills, and 12 digs.  She finished with 31 assists, 17 kills, and 18 digs on the day.


Also performing well against ETBU was Ashley Dodson (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon HS). She earned her third double-double of the weekend with 11 kills and 11 digs.


Rebecca Erwin (Duluth, Ga./Duluth HS) led the offense with 20 kills in the two matches.


And Caroline Johnson (Lucas, Texas/Lovejoy HS) finished with a team-high 36 digs.


The Panthers now prepare for the Southern Athletic Association tournament.  Hosted at No. 24 Hendrix, the tournament begins Friday, Nov. 4 and culminates in the championship match on Sunday, Nov. 6.


BSC opens against Oglethorpe University in the first round. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
