BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's volleyball team saw all six starters named to Southern Athletic Association All-Conference teams, the league announced Friday. This is the most selections for the Panthers since 2014.
"I'm very proud of our six student-athletes for earning all-conference honors this year," said Head Coach Jeff White. "They worked really hard this season and the league coaches saw that."
BSC tied league champion No. 24 Hendrix College and Berry College with the most all-conference selections.
Sophomore Jeneva Salter (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones HS) and freshman Caroline Johnson (Lucas, Texas/Lovejoy HS) earned first-team all-conference honors. Salter led the league in kills per set and Johnson was the top defender in conference with 6.22 digs per set against SAA opponents. This is Salter's second first-team selection of her career.
Senior Laura Van Peursem (Huntsville, Ala./The Randolph School) was named second-team all-conference for the second time in her career, marking her third all-conference nod. She finished the regular season with a team-best .296 hitting percentage of all attackers with over 20 matches under their belt.
Senior Caroline Hyde (Franklin, Tenn./Centennial HS), junior Rachel Lee (Montgomery, Ala./The Montgomery Academy), and sophomore Marjorie Ward (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park HS) earned All-SAA Honorable Mention. This is the first conference honor for both Hyde and Lee. Ward earned all-conference honorable mention last year as well.
BSC finished second in the SAA and will face Oglethorpe University at 6 p.m. tonight to open the 2016 conference tournament hosted by Hendrix.
