COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Birmingham-Southern women's volleyball team dropped its first matches of the season at the 2019 Pikes Peak Challenge Friday. BSC (6-2) fell to host No. 7 Colorado College and Whitworth University.
Julia Denby (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze HS) and Rebecca Erwin (Duluth, Ga./Duluth HS) led the team offensively, finishing with 22 points each. Denby earned a team-best 17 kills on the day. Erwin tied Milea Ray (Alabaster, Ala./Pensacola State) with 14 kills, respectively. And Alyssa Coats (Nolensville, Tenn./Nolensville HS) rounded out the Panthers in double-digit kills at 13.
Defensively, Ally Mildenberger (Chattanooga, Tenn./Notre Dame HS) picked a team-high 21 digs. Leah Nielsen (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain HS) had 11 blocks to lead the team with Denby and Erwin finishing right behind her with nine each.
The Panthers conclude play in the challenge tomorrow against Transylvania before opening Southern Athletic Association play at No. 3 Berry College on Friday, Sept. 20.
