BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—With its regular season concluded, but still ineligible for the SCAC championships, the Birmingham-Southern cross country team has had several performances this season that would have landed some of its athletes among the top runners in the conference.
Senior Mary Elaine Williamson ranks third in the SCAC with her 5K time of 18:53.2, as does sophomore Robert Willet on the men's side with his 8K time of 25:48.40.
Freshman Trent Blumenthal also would have ranked 15th in the men's list, and seniors Emily Moore and Caitlin Hodges also would have been in the top 25.
The SCAC championships are this weekend in San Antonio, Texas, hosted by Trinity University. The Panthers will be eligible for conference post-season beginning next year in the fall of 2011.
BSC is participating in the Transitional School Championships instead, hosted by Berry College in Rome, Ga., on Saturday, Nov. 13.
