BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Ten members of the Birmingham-Southern cross country teams are set to compete this Saturday, Nov. 10, at the NCAA Division III Regional Championships, hosted by Emory University at Nash Farm Battlefield in Hampton, Ga.
The men's 8K race will begin at 10 a.m. ET, while the women's 6K event is slated for an 11 a.m. ET start.
Senior Robert Willett leads the group of six men's runners after finishing first for BSC in all seven races this past season and placing second at the SAA Championship on Oct. 27, earning First-Team All-Conference honors. Senior David Olsen, junior Christian Clesi, sophomore Scotty Wild, and freshmen Jordan McKnight and John White will also be competing.
On the women's side, freshman Kelsey Holdbrooks leads the group of four runners. She was the Panthers' top finisher in six of seven races this past season. Other runners competing are sophomores Hallie Jordan and Victoria Ports and freshman Katie Ann Bass.
"We are looking forward to the opportunity to race this weekend at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Regional Championships," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "It will be a great experience for our men and women's team as they have worked hard all season. There will be a great field of runners from throughout the South/Southeast Region, and I look for our athletes to run well and continue to improve as they have all season."
There are eight regional championships being conducted around the country this weekend, with the top two men's and women's teams from each regional earning automatic bids to the NCAA National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 17, in Terre Haute, Ind. In addition, there will be 16 at-large teams selected for both the men's and women's championships. Approximately 26 teams and 210 runners will be hitting the course in the men's event, while 242 women from 33 programs will take part in this year's Championships.
