Willett finishes 17th at NCAA Cross Country Regional, earns All-Region honor
HAMPTON, Ga.—Senior runner Robert Willett finished 17th overall and earned All-Region honors at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional on Saturday, hosted by Emory at Nash Battlefield Farm in Hampton, Ga.
Willett clocked an 8K time of 26:43.60. Centre's John Kieffer won the regional with a time of 25:17.37.
For the women, freshman Katie Ann Bass was the top BSC finisher with a 6K time of 24:35.52, finishing 52nd in the field of 184 runners. Mary Baldwin College's Sophia Stone won the individual crown with a time of 22:03.69.
On the men's side, freshman John White was second for BSC, finishing 68th among the 160 competitors with a time of 28:05.18. Freshman Jordan McKnight was 79th (28:19.77), juniorChristian Clesi was 103rd (29:16.46), senior David Olsen was 105th (29:25.61), and sophomore Scotty Wild was 110th (29:40.98). As a team the Panthers were 13th; Lynchburg won the regional team title.
For the women, freshman Kelsey Holdbrooks was 57th (24:42.07), sophomore Victoria Ports was 124th (26:44.06), and sophomore Hallie Jordan was 128th (26:54.17). The women did not have enough individuals to notch a team score. Trinity University won the team regional crown.
"In his final cross country race for BSC, I could not have asked for a stronger effort from Robert," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "He put it all on the line and showed the kind of effort that we have witnessed for the last four seasons. Both Willett and Olsen will be hard to replace when it comes to leadership and dedication, but they are passing the torch on to our returners that will continue the tradition!"
