ROME, Ga.—The Birmingham-Southern women were fourth and the men were sixth at the Southern Athletic Association Cross Country Championship, Saturday morning at Berry College in Rome, Ga.
Three Panther women finished in the top 15, garnering All-Conference honors in the process, led by freshman Elise Pittman who ran the 6K course in 23:51.51 to place 10th in the field of 79 runners. Sophomore Katie Ann Bass was 11th with a time of 23:52.45, and freshman Shannon Walsh was 13th with a time of 24:05.19. The women improved over last year's sixth-place finish, moving up two spots to fourth.
For the men, freshman Chris Roberts was the top finisher, placing 17th in the field of 65 with an 8K time of 27:34.17.
"Our teams fought a tough fight throughout the race," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "We had some strong finishes and I am very proud that we had a number of All-SAA finishers and personal best performances."
Centre won both the men's and women's titles for the second straight year. Centre's John Keiffer was the individual men's champion with a time of 25:18.43, and Rhodes' Brittany Alexander was the women's champion with a time of 22:38.67.
