NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—The Birmingham-Southern cross country teams competed at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championship today, hosted by Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va.
The Panther women finished ninth in the field of 27 teams, while the men were 17th in a field of 24.
Freshman Elise Pittman placed 34th with a 6K time of 23:42.24, earning her a spot on the All-Region team. Sophomore Katie Ann Bass was 45th and freshman Shannon Walsh was 46th to round out the Panthers' top three finishers.
On the men's side, senior Christian Clesi was BSC's top finisher at 54th with an 8K time of 26:49.37, followed by freshman Chris Roberts at 75th and junior Scotty Wild at 94th.
"It was a very strong finish for our men and women today," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "They ran as we knew they would and truly represented Birmingham-Southern well. This season finish is a reflection of the amazing growth within our program and speaks volumes for our coaching staff and the work that goes into everyone coming together."
