BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The 2013 Birmingham-Southern women's cross country team has been honored as an All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) the organization announced today.
BSC was one of 215 women's teams that earned All-Academic Team honors. Programs must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or greater and competed in at least five different meets with at least five runners representing their school at each meet.
The Panthers had a team GPA of 3.39. Other Southern Athletic Association teams who also earned the honor were Berry, Centre, and Rhodes.
Back in September, the women's cross country team also received the inaugural BSC Team GPA Award.
"I am so proud of our women for the hard work and dedication that they put into their coursework," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "At the beginning of the season we talked about goals that they wanted to accomplish and maintaining a high team GPA was at the top of that list. Our women are a special group and I am honored to be a part of such a dedicated group of student-athletes. It means so much that they understand the importance of balancing their academic and athletic lives and hold each other accountable to the roles they play."
