Cross Country teams win Gulf Coast Cross Country Classic Championships

MOBILE, Ala.—The men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Mobile, Ala., this weekend and returned home champions, both winning the crown of the Gulf Coast Classic, hosted by Spring Hill College.

The Panthers were the only Division III team competing in the meet.

Top finishers on the women's side were sophomore Elise Pittman at second with a 5K time of 20:41.70, sophomore Shannon Walsh at third (21:48.09), freshman Emma Moore at sixth (22:89.00), freshman Morgan Reynolds at 10th (22:39.78), and freshman Mary Margaret Jackson at 11th (22:41.63).

For the men, sophomore Chris Roberts was fourth with a four-mile time of 22:07.95, followed by senior Scotty Wild at eighth (22:34.48) and sophomore Timothy McOmber at 10th (22:55.32).

"This was a great team win for both our men's and women's squads," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "We have been working hard and just focusing on pushing each other daily. I can't say enough about the way we competed and remained focused on doing our best."

The Panthers are back in action next Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Jacksonville State Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Ala.
