Cross Country Finishes Third in Respective Divisions

RESULTS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Both the Birmingham-Southern College men's and women's cross country teams finished third in their respective divisions Friday at the JSU Struts Season Opener.

"I'm proud of the strong start by our men and women today," said Head Coach Kenneth Cox.  "This was a positive meet to be a part of and I believe our runners responded well to the challenge. Despite being the only Division III team in the entire meet, our athletes focused only on doing the job we came out to do and that's to compete."

Senior Elise Pittman (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills) was the top finisher for the women, coming in 31st out of 160 runners at 15:29.4 and breaking a personal record. The time was nearly a minute faster than her previous PR, also set at the Struts Opener last year.

Seniors Timothy McOmber (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Catholic Prep School) and Chris Roberts (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, out of 138 runners to lead the Panthers on the men's side.  McOmber set a new personal record with a time of 15:28.2, cutting 30 seconds off his previous PR. And Roberts crossed in a new personal best time of 15:36.6, nearly a minute faster than his previous record.

The Panthers will have two weeks before their next competition, when they head to the University of Montevallo for the Falcon Classic on Saturday, Sept. 17.
