No. 16 Birmingham-Southern to take on Trinity University at home, Saturday at noon

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—No. 16 Birmingham-Southern returns home to Panther Stadium this weekend to face Trinity University, Saturday, Oct. 13, at noon.

The Panthers are 5-1 after suffering their first loss of the season this past weekend to No. 6 Wesley College in Dover, Del. Trinity stands at 3-2 after defeating Rhodes College, 30-22, in San Antonio last weekend.

This will be the sixth meeting between the programs, with Trinity holding a 5-0 record against BSC. The teams were both members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference until this season when the Panthers moved into the newly-formed Southern Athletic Association. The Tigers remain members of the SCAC.

Senior quarterback Jimmy Stainback leads the BSC offense with 950 passing yards and nine touchdowns. He is 52-82 with five interceptions (three of those against Wesley last week). Junior Joseph Moultrie and senior Shawn Morris lead the rushers; Moultrie has 401 yards on 51 carries with eight touchdowns, while Morris has 394 yards on 65 carries and five touchdowns. Sophomore receiver Sam Vermilyea also leads with 327 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 11 catches. On defense, senior safety Andrew Shannon leads the Panthers with 44 tackles (23 solo).

For Trinity, quarterback Nyk McKissic is 79-120 for 1,215 yards with 11 touchdowns and one interception. Pat Granchelli leads on the ground with 307 yards and two touchdowns on 65 carries, and Mason Lytal leads the receivers with six touchdown catches and 364 receiving yards. Tom Puskarich and Nick Darling lead the Tiger defense with 35 and 34 tackles, respectively.

Saturday's game will feature live video at as well as a live game tracker available here. Tickets are $10 for adults; children under 18 are always admitted free to all BSC athletic events.

The Panthers are also at home next weekend for Homecoming 2012, facing Sewanee on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. in the last home game of the season.
