Slow Start Hurts Panthers in Loss to No. 10 Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Birmingham-Southern football dropped its first game in four weeks Saturday in a tough 26-10 decision against No. 10 Berry College.  After a slow start, BSC (5-3) outscored the Vikings in the second half, but fell short to move to 3-3 against Southern Athletic Association opponents.

Trevor Oakes (Somerville, Ala./Hartselle HS) threw for a game-high 231 yards and a touchdown, completing 24-of-42 passes.  Buddy Dowd (Dothan, Ala./Northview HS) caught the touchdown and averaged a team-best 18.5 yards per catch.  Andrews hit a 39-yard field goal in the third quarter along with an extra point kick to finish with four points.

The Panthers defense performed well, holding Berry to just 26 points after the Vikings came into the matchup averaging 40 points per game.  BSC allowed Berry to connect on just 10 catches with Matthew Byers (Pelham, Ala./John Carroll Catholic HS) grabbing a third quarter interception.  Sy Butler (Childersburg, Ala./Childersburg HS) earned a game-high 15 tackles, eight solo.  And Garrett Stevens (Social Circle, Ga./Eastside HS) finished with 10 tackles, four solo.
