Softball wins big on Sunday to sweep Centre

DANVILLE, Ky.—Winning by the scores of 13-0 and 19-0, the Birmingham-Southern softball team completed the four-game sweep of Centre College on Sunday to solidify its spot atop the Southern Athletic Association standings.

The Panthers moved to 17-5-1 overall and 11-2-1 in the SAA, while the Colonels fell to 8-6 overall and 7-5 in the conference.

BSC recorded 12 hits in the first game today, scoring at least once in all five innings. Five Panthers had multiple hits, led by freshman Micaela Beck who was 3-4. Seniors Taylor Bassett and Alyssa Statham both hit home runs in the game, and Statham posted a game-high five RBI.

Senior Bethany Fronk (9-1) threw the complete-game one-hit shutout, giving up two walks with one strikeout.

The Panthers scored at least three runs per inning in game two, picking up 14 hits. Sophomore Amanda Ballew was 3-4 with four RBI, and sophomore Maddie Ridgway had a game-high five RBI.

Sophomore Taylor Harkins (8-4) picked up the complete-game one-hit shutout, giving up one walk with nine strikeouts.

BSC returns home for two mid-week non-conference doubleheaders, hosting Agnes Scott on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Talladega on Thursday at 2 p.m.
