Softball splits at NFCA Leadoff Classic

COLUMBUS, Ga.—The Birmingham-Southern softball team split a pair of contests Friday afternoon at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic at R.G. Jones Field in Columbus. Ga.

BSC dropped a six-inning affair to No. 8 Virginia Wesleyan, 10-1, and rallied in the nightcap with an 8-4 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Panthers move to 11-3 on the season.


  • The Marlins scored twice in the bottom of the first and second, with BSC scoring its lone run in the top of the fourth on a home run by freshman Savannah Lee, her fifth of the season.
  • VWC scored three in the bottom of the fifth and then three in the sixth to end the game early.

  • BSC defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 8-4; statistics were not immediately available but will be posted as soon as possible.
