LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern softball team improved to 18-5 after sweeping their doubleheader against Covenant College Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers, who are on a five-game win streak, won game one 12-5 before taking game two 4-3 in eight innings.
Savannah Lee (Lascassas, Tenn./Oakland HS) led BSC at the plate hitting .625. Three of her five hits were home runs. She also hit a double, scored three runs, and finished with nine RBI. Saydee Keith (Corner, Ala./Corner HS) had a good day offensively. She went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Abby Spencer (Auburn, Ala./Auburn HS) also had three hits on the day and scored three runs.
Jessica Perley (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia HS) and Bailey Murphy (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville HS) earned the wins. Three pitchers helped the Panthers get the first one. Murphy, who had the start, went four innings before Haley Crumpton (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson HS) came and struck out four of the seven batters she faced across two innings. Alexis Eisenberg (Chelsea, Ala./Georgia Gwinnett) then closed it out. Perley allowed just three hits in 5.2 scoreless innings of work to pick up her fourth win of the season in game two.
BSC remains on the road. They take on Maryville tomorrow in another doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon ET.
