BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 8 Birmingham-Southern softball opened play in the 2019 Southern Athletic Association Tournament with a 6-1 win over Hendrix College Friday afternoon. BSC (32-5) improved to 18-11 all-time in the tournament, 6-1 when facing Hendrix.
Haley Crumpton (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson HS) earned the complete game win, striking out 10 and allowing just one run. Bailey Murphy (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville HS) led offensively, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run.
The Panthers will take on No. 3 seed Rhodes College Saturday at noon in the semifinals. BSC is 4-1 all-time in the tournament against Rhodes. The Lynx are the only conference team to defeat the Panthers this season. The last time they met was March 17 when the BSC won 6-1 on the road.
