Swimming and Diving picks up SAA wins against Hendrix, Sewanee

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern swimming and diving teams recorded two dual-meet victories this weekend, defeating Hendrix on Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex, and then Sewanee on Saturday in Sewanee, Tenn.

BSC's senior class of 2016 was honored prior to Friday's meet, as it was the last home date of the regular season.

On Friday against Hendrix, the women won 96-75, and the men won 112-79.

On the women's side, there were eight first-place finishes:

Today against Sewanee, the women won 173-106 and the men won 208-78.

The women won 11 events:

  • Heacock--100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke
  • Katie Kassis--100-yard butterfly, 200-yard butterfly
  • Stempak--50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle
  • Peyton Langley--100-yard breaststroke
  • Hannah Sisler--200-yard breaststroke
  • Gladstone--500-yard freestyle
  • 200-yard medley relay (Stempak, Langley, Kassis, Chelsea Chamblee)
  • 200-yard free relay (Stempak, Sisler, Lagley, Elly Arnold)

 And the BSC men won 14 events:

  • Cushman--200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, 1,000-yard freestyle
  • Riggs--100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 400-yard IM
  • Taylor--100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke
  • Huffstutler--100-yard butterfly, 200-yard butterfly
  • Stone Strankman--50-yard freestyle
  • Gonzalez--100-yard freestyle
  • ​200-yard medley relay (Chris Nett, Brady Coleman, Huffstutler, Cushman)
  • 200-yard free relay (Chris Nett, Andrew Maley, Jackson Algiers, Gonzalez)

The Panthers wrap up the regular season next weekend at the Berry College Invitational in Rome, Ga., before hosting the 2016 SAA Championship, Feb. 10-13 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
