BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern swimming and diving team ended its Senior Day competition with sweeping wins over Hendrix College on Saturday afternoon.
The women's team defeated the Warriors 170-90 and the men got the win by a score of 159-93.
On the women's side, freshman Savannah Barber (St. Petersburg, Fla./Northside Christian HS) and sophomore Becca Erwin (Duluth, Ga./Duluth HS) had notable performances. Barber took first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:00.3, winning by a whopping 45 seconds. She also took first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.1 and was a member of the first-place 200-yard free relay team.
Erwin placed first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:09.43 and first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.06, just a few seconds off the program record.
Overall, the BSC women took first place in 12 events.
On the men's side, sophomore Noah Young (Clinton, Miss./Clinton HS) and freshman Driscoll Crabbe (Suwanee, Ga./Collinshill HS) made big impressions on the meet. Young took first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:17.95 and he was a member of the first-place 200-yard free relay team.
Crabbe also collected two wins. He got his first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:16.77, a 34-second cushion on second place. His second victory came in the 200-yard IM when he finished the event with a mark of 2:01.79.
Prior to the meet, the Panthers held their Senior Day ceremony to recognize and honor the ten seniors on the team: Wil Barton (Memphis, Tenn./St. George's Independent School), Brady Coleman (Denham Springs, La./Denham Springs HS), Chilly Davis (Helena, Ala./Pelham HS), Emma Ferrier (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic HS), Luke Huffstutler (Odenville, Ala./Heritage Christian Academy), Katie Kassis (Mableton, Ga./Whitefield Academy), Mark Lutomski (Hoover, Ala./Hoover HS), Jenni Moon (Lincoln, Neb./North Star HS), Sarah Catherine Murphy (Canton, Miss./Germantown HS) and Caleb Riggs (Mesa, Ariz./Peninsula HS).
