SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's swimming and diving teams were defeated by Sewanee in their meet on Friday.
The men's team came up just one point shy of the Tigers, falling 112-111. BSC took first in six events, including the 200-yard freestyle relay. Five different Panthers topped the competition in their respective events. Max Stoneking (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South HS) won the 1000-yard freestyle, Nico Medina (Hollywood, Fla./American Heritage HS) won the 200-yard freestyle, Patrick Dunne (Mobile, Ala./McGill-Toolen HS) won the 50-yard freestyle, Noah Young (Clinton, Miss./Clinton HS) took the 100-yard backstroke, and Ryan Emili (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage HS) placed first in the 100-yard freestyle.
On the women's side, BSC was defeated 121-116 but had seven first-place finishes to its credit, including two relay wins in the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle. Becca Erwin (Duluth, Ga./Duluth HS) won two individual events: The 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle. Other event winners for BSC were Mary Beth Ronne (Athens, Tenn./McMinn County HS) in the 200-yard freestyle, Rachel Sullivan (Cumming, Ga./North Forsyth HS) in the 400-yard IM, and Kasey Godwin (Jefferson City, Tenn./Jefferson County HS) in the 100-yard backstroke.
Birmingham-Southern's next meet will be on Sunday, Jan. 28 against Trinity University and Centre College.
