Volleyball falls to Austin, No. 9 Southwestern

SAN ANTONIO, Texas—The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team dropped two matches today at the SCAC West vs. East Divisional, losing a hard-fought 3-2 match to Austin College and a 3-0 match to No. 9 Southwestern University.

The Panthers lost by the scores of 25-17, 11-25, 25-15, 22-25, 7-15 to Austin. Sophomore Alex Bothe led with 15 kills, while junior Shelby Moore added 12. Junior Lauren Reibe led with 33 assists, and junior Presley Dickson led with 15 digs.

Against No. 9 Southwestern, BSC lost by the scores of 15-25, 15-25, 16-25. Moore and freshman Kelly Foster led with six kills apiece, Reibe recorded 23 assists, and Bothe led with 10 digs.

"At some point we need to finish a five set match," Head Coach Judy Green said. "Today we struggled in both matches with our ball control. It was difficult to get into an offensive rhythm consistently. We got very good play from Alaina Smith and Kelly Foster this weekend. Obviously this was our toughest conference weekend and going 2-2 and beating Trinity on their home court was a nice accomplishment for our team."

BSC returns home this Thursday, Oct. 13, to take on Faulkner University in Bill Battle Coliseum at 7 p.m.
